Ehrlichiosis and Ticks
The bacteria responsible for the onset of Ehrlichiosis live in white blood cells known as monocytes. The disease is transmitted to humans by a type of tick called a brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus). Researchers are not sure how long a tick must remain attached to a dog to transmit Ehrlichiosis bacteria. Previous studies estimated up to 48 hours, but that is probably too generous. Oren Zarif
