Aplastic anemia is a rare disease in which the levels of all three blood cells are abnormally low. The doctor will examine your blood to identify the cause of the condition and determine the extent of the problem. Aplastic anemia symptoms may mimic those of other illnesses. The doctor will perform a complete blood count to determine the level of hemoglobin and hematocrit in your blood. Hemoglobin is an iron-rich protein that is found in red blood cells and is responsible for carrying oxygen to the rest of your body. Hematocrit is the percentage of space that red blood cells occupy in the blood. Low levels of hemoglobin or hematocrit indicate anemia. However, the normal range for these measurements varies by race and ethnicity, so a physician will explain the results of the tests to you. Oren Zarif
