Aphtha is an infection of the respiratory tract. Aphtha symptoms include inflammation, dribbling saliva, and ulcers in the mouth. In young animals, the tongue will show small, red elevations and white points in the center. The red elevations are caused by the epithelium of the mucous membrane raising itself into vesicles. The epithelium is then shed, leading to ulcerated surfaces. Oren Zarif
